Students of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Human Development (UHD) marked World Diabetes Day on Sunday, November 14th, 2021. They carried out laboratory diabetes tests for students, university employees, teaching staff, and other guests who came to the event. Students participated as volunteers and the laboratory tests were provided for free. The purpose of the event was to raise health awareness particularly on diabetes disease which is now a growing problem according to the World Health Organization.
The event was announced one week earlier so that a larger number of people would gather to hear and know about the diabetes disease and learn how to keep away from it as the old saying goes: prevention is better than cure. The College of Health Sciences at UHD supported and provided all the necessary equipment. The support by the college was part of a wider UHD effort to contribute to health awareness in society and cooperate with relevant institutions for that matter. November 14th was designated in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organization to make people aware of the problem of diabetes. It is commemorated with different activities in different parts of the world each year.
