Four students at the Department of Diplomacy and Public Relations at the University of Human Development organised two iftar dinners for university students who live in dorms/apartments, away from home.
Iftar has traditionally been used as the name for the meal that Muslims have when they break their fast after sunset during the holy month of Ramadan. Getting together for a meal in the evening of that month is an enjoyable occasion for Muslims. It is a symbol of harmony, love and unity, and it enhances the spirit of friendship and respect.
The organising students were Ms Ranu Muhammed, Ms Saya Star, Mr Ahmed Najmaddeen and Mr Muhammed Rostam. They are all in Semester 6, Year 3, of their study. It should be mentioned that holding the banquet came as part of the requirement of the Event Management Course that students in Year Three in the Diplomacy and Public Relations Department have to complete.
The first iftar event took place on March 27th in Gundi Allmani (German Village) for 20 students. It was sponsored by Dialogue Culture. The second iftar was held on March 31st for 150 students. In addition, food was distributed to some poor families living in Sulaymaniyah. The event was sponsored by entrepreneur Wasta Salman and Sherko Co. for Printing and Advertising.
