The College of Law and Politics at the University of Human Development (UHD) organised a seminar today, 29 September 2026, to introduce a new textbook written by lecturer Asst Prof. Dr Karwan Awrahman Ismail. The book is titled ‘Labour Law in the Kurdistan Region’. ‘Labour Law’ is a subject studied by third-year students in Law Departments across the Kurdistan Region’s universities.

Asst Prof. Dr Hiwar Abubakir Ali, the university’s Assistant President for Financial Affairs, and Prof. Dr Anwar Muhammed Faraj, the university’s President for Scientific Affairs, were among the prominent guests who attended the event.

The seminar began with an introduction to the book by Prof. Dr Saman Fawzi Omar, a senior lecturer in the UHD Law Department. Dr Saman shared his interest in Labour Law with the students, explaining its vital importance to both employees and employers, as well as its role in maintaining social peace, national security, and development. He reviewed the book, highlighted several key areas, and stated that the text is a necessary and significant addition to the literature on Labour Law in Kurdistan.

The author, Dr Karwan Awrahman, thanked Dr Saman, the attendees, and the college for organising the seminar. He outlined several reasons why students needed a new Labour Law textbook in the Kurdish language, and discussed the challenges he faced during the writing process. Dr Karwan noted that his new book is not the end of the road, as he plans to follow any new legislation and regulations issued by the government and incorporate them into future editions.
