Students of Year 4 in the Law Department at the University of Human Development had a practical class at the Directorate of Nationality and Civil Status, Sulaymaniyah, (Sulaymaniyah National Identity Card), on December 3, 2025, on the functions of this government department and the services it offers to citizens and foreigners. The class was organised and supervised by their lecturer, Dr Asos Namiq Brakhas, who teaches them the Private International Law subject.

The session began with a lesson by legal expert Lieutenant Colonel Bestun Sulaiman Hama-Amin, who focused on the legal applications they receive, such as applications for correcting age (date of birth that is incorrectly registered), erasing accounts of non-existent children, changing gender and religion, etc. The next lesson was delivered by legal expert Major Karwan Ghafur Khdhir on the naturalisation procedure and the issues surrounding this topic. The third lesson was on applications by citizens for changing names and nicknames, delivered by legal expert Lieutenant Colonel Shkar Jamal Jalal. The moderator of the class was legal expert Lieutenant Colonel Sherko Salam Muhammed.

Such practical classes enhance students' knowledge of Private International Law, citizenship law, and all other related issues, as they learn from individuals with practical knowledge and experience. This will help make them better lawyers in the future.
